Frequently Asked Questions
Some FAQ's.. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions..
We always get asked if we shoot weddings. :) We don't!
We specialize in newborn, babies, children and families but we'd be happy to recommend some wedding photographers if you are looking for one!
Newborn sessions are my favorite! I love my job and enjoy photographing any subject but newborns are special! It is such a precious time and I appreciate the opportunity to capture your newborn during his first weeks of life.
Q: When should I book my newborn session?
A: Book as soon as you know your due date. I can pencil you in within 2 weeks before and after your due date. If you are going to have a C-section and know when your exact due date is, then we can even book the date and time right away. I book limited sessions per month so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Q: At what age should the newborn be?
A: The best time to photograph your newborn is between 5 and 14 days. The younger they are, the sleepier and curlier they are! It is also common for newborn acne to flare up around 2+ weeks, so we want to avoid that!
Q: I missed the 10 days window, am I too late now?
A: NOT AT ALL! We can take "newborn" pictures up to 3 months old! We may need to adjust our expectations a bit, but we can definitely still capture your little one's newborn stage. And sometimes, it really depends on your baby, as I've had some super sleepy 6-9 week olds! I actually enjoy doing "older" newborns because they are more aware and I can get a lot of those wide awake shots!
Q: How long does the newborn session last?
A: It can take from 2-3 hours. You can't rush a newborn! :) We will take feeding breaks, snuggle breaks and diaper changes throughout our session. A happy newborn = successful session! :) Once you've booked your session, I will also send you some tips to prepare your newborn for the session.
For first time parents-to-be, this is such a special time! Please encourage the dads to participate. The photo session is something you will remember for a long time. For the moms who already have older kids, the session pictures will be a great remembrance of the family before kid #x arrives! :)
Q: When should I book my maternity session?
A: Please book your session as early as possible, that way I can reserve a spot for you in my schedule.
Q: How many weeks should I be at the session?
A: The maternity session can be done as early as 32 weeks, and ideally not farther than 36 weeks. We want to make sure we don't miss the opportunity to do the shoot, just in case the baby decides to come out early! :) We also want to make sure that you are still fairly mobile so we can do different poses in our session.
Q: How long does the full maternity session last?
A: 1 hour.
Q: Can I include my husband/other children/pets in the session?
A: Yes, up to 4 other family members are encouraged to join in some of the pictures! Husbands, siblings are most definitely welcome and so are pets! :)
Q: Where will the photo session take place?
A: All newborn sessions are done in the studio. However, we also offer lifestyle sessions that are done in your home. We also do family sessions and some seasonal sessions at a park or trail!
Q: What should we wear? what should we expect, etc?
A: A detailed information sheet will be sent to you upon booking a session.
Q: What equipment do you use?
A: I use Canon 5d markIII and a bunch of different lenses.
Q: Can I bring my own props?
A: I will have my own props but you can most definitely bring your own! Some of my clients like to use their own props that may have some sentimental value to them. Some bring heirloom pieces and I love that! If you feel like going shopping for your own props/accessories.. check out etsy.com for some cool props, hats, headbands, etc.
